Mountain time is more than a time zone — it’s become a way of living. Letting days unfold organically, leading with intention, patience, kindness & love.

MOUNTAIN TIME, a part of OurMountainLife

When we talk of mountain time, we’re referring to a lifestyle practice similar to slow living, not the time zone or a vacation escape.

This practice is about doing things at the "right speed" — mindfully and with purpose — rather than stressing about productivity or endless lists of to-dos. This mindset intentionally prioritizes a slower pace and simplicity, which can be adopted almost anywhere, but is easier to introduce when unplugged & surrounded by nature, compared to the high-speed culture of modern life.

By slowing down, tasks and daily life can feel simpler because they become more manageable and intentional, rather than chaotic and rushed.

  • Reducing stress: by deliberately choosing a slower pace, you give your nervous system time to calm down. This leads to lower cortisol levels and can improve sleep, heart health, and overall well-being.

  • Enhancing focus: without the constant pressure to rush, your brain has the space to think more clearly and creatively. This can make complex problems feel less overwhelming and boost mental clarity.

  • Prioritizing choices: slower living helps you filter out the non-essential tasks and commitments, so you can devote time and energy to what truly matters to you, your well-being, and your relationships.

  • Being present: you focus on one what’s in front of you — your friends, family, one task at a time. This deep focus leads to better results and greater satisfaction.

  • Fewer distractions: this lifestyle involves intentionally reducing external clutter and noise, from activities, things, technology. Many people on this path find themselves leaving their phone in the other room more often and enjoy time without it, being more present in their lives.

We’d love you to visit us, but you don't need to move to a cabin in the woods to practice mountain time living. You can start with small, intentional changes wherever you are.

  • Pay attention to your breath for a minute or two, lengthening your inhales and exhales
  • Take a 5 or 10 minute walk in nature
  • Go stand or sit under, or hug a tree
  • Prioritize time for hobbies you enjoy
  • Put your phone in a ’Do not disturb’ focus mode for an hour or two
  • Practice mindful eating without distractions
  • Say no to non-essential commitments
