Come Experience OurMountainLife

Are the Mountains Calling?

If you’re feeling the call for time in the mountains, time in nature, or just want to unplug — come visit! We’re near the top of a canyon almost two miles high (10,200’ elevation), surrounded by 13,000’ mountains where the north and south forks of a creek merge. Located in a National Forest, with Wilderness area nearby, trees, trails and wildlife abound.

Our 1800s cabin was once a mining and assay office for the Tasmania Mining and Milling Company (Philadelphia). We’re slowly restoring it, honoring its history while incorporating a few conveniences. This is a seasonal cabin for enjoying cooler temps at higher elevation in the summer and golden aspen, with occasional snow, in the fall.

The main cabin is a traditional one room log cabin and includes the kitchen & eating area, food storage, drinking & washing water and currently our bed. Two additions added by the mining company both include two rooms. The back rooms are the shop & one day our bedroom, and the side rooms are supplies & solar power and the former brothel, current guest room. We’ve added a canvas bell tent, dubbed “the yurt” by friends, near the creek behind the cabin that is also for guests. Both guest accommodations have double beds, warm sheets & cozy comforters. Being near the creek, the yurt does run a few degrees cooler. Green noise (nature sounds) included.

Rustic & Off-grid

A rustic, off-grid stay isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay. If peeing outside isn’t your thing or if you need to wash your hair everyday, it may not be for you. We don’t have traditional plumbing, or even a working outhouse. We have buckets under toilet seats with cedar shavings and pails for toilet paper. Both indoor & outside wash stations have our version of running water for hands, dishes or even bodies, but with slightly limited useable water availability we conserve when we can. If you want it warm, you have to boil water to add to the reservoir. Or a cold plunge in the creek feels incredible after a hike.
